Do you need a travel adapter for Vietnam?

When traveling to Vietnam, you’ll want to ensure you’re as well-prepared as possible. It’s important to consider the use of power outlets and plugs in your destination country. Not every country uses the same type of outlets, and of course, you’ll want to be able to use your phone, camera, shaver, and other electronic devices. Additionally, some countries have different voltage levels or frequencies. You may need a travel adapter, also known as a universal adapter. In this article, we provide all the information you need to travel to Vietnam with peace of mind!

Type A: This outlet is compatible with type A plugs.

In the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and European countries, the following plug types are used:

  • United States and Canada: Type A and B plugs. These can be used in type A outlets, but do not fit in type C or D outlets.
  • Australia: Type I plugs. These fit only in type I outlets and are not compatible with outlets in Vietnam.
  • United Kingdom: Type G plugs. These fit only in type G outlets and are not compatible with outlets in Vietnam.
  • European countries: Type C, E, and F plugs. These can be used in type C and unsafe in type D outlets, but do not fit in type A outlets.

For certain outlets in Vietnam, you will need a travel adapter. We recommend investing in a universal world adapter, so you can use it when traveling to other destinations. At the bottom of the page, we provide some suggestions!

Do I need a voltage converter in Vietnam?

The voltage in Vietnam varies by region and is either 110 V or 220 V. If you are in a region with 220 V, it is very similar to the 230 V used in most European countries, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Devices designed for these voltages will charge without any issues.

However, if you are in a region with 110 V, devices from Europe, the United Kingdom, or Australia may not work properly unless they are compatible with lower voltages. In such cases, you may need a voltage converter to safely charge your devices.

You can check the label on your device to ensure it works with different voltages. If you see '100-240V, 50/60 Hz' on the label, the device can be used worldwide. This label is commonly found on most frequently used devices such as phones, laptops, cameras, shavers, etc.

Please note that in the United States and Canada, the voltage is 120 V with a frequency of 60 Hz. If you are traveling to a region in Vietnam with 220 V, you will also need to ensure your devices are compatible.
